Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes runs alongside school pupil Kirsty Childs at Tonbridge Boys School (Australia’s base for the Olympics) in their Inter-school Sports Day.
John Childs who works for Palletline member S&S Distribution told us that his daughter Kirsty volunteered to do Javelin, Long Jump and the 800m race because there was a lack of contestants on the day. Kelly arrived to support her good friend and PE teacher who actually taught both her and Kirsty at Hugh Christie School.
The 800m race was going to be cancelled if they didn’t find a third contestant so Kirsty stepped forward. She was 1.5 minutes off the pace before local athlete Kelly Holmes stepped onto the track and jogged the last 400m with her. There were only three girls in the race so she did indeed win the bronze medal despite being a lap behind the other two girls. However something tells me she will not forget this race in a hurry!
